AWC completes Mayport Community Center

Earlier this month, Auld & White Constructors (AWC) completed the City of Jacksonville’s Mayport Community Center. The 8,017 SF, two-story project designed in pre-Civil War style architecture pays homage to this sleepy fishing village’s historic past. Similar to the Gavagan Hotel (photo further below) and the King’s Residence just blocks away, the project incorporates a two-tiered veranda with posts and rails (honoring balustrades of that era) and a decorative three-window wide operable cupola adorns the top of this instant classic. The project replaced the smaller, dated community center that was located in a trailer across the street within the Michael B. Scanlan boat ramp park.

The new expansive space includes a large community room, office spaces, a warming kitchen, table storage, elevator, and multiple restrooms. Additionally, it helps reduce the congestion of the adjacent boat ramp by providing overflow parking with easier maneuverability and turning radiuses. In addition to providing a better space for the community to meet it alleviates much of the overcrowding that was occurring on weekends and holidays.
