Arc of the St. Johns – Safe Harbor Project

Auld & White Constructors recently completed the Safe Harbor project at The Arc of the St. Johns’ main campus in St. Augustine, FL. The one-story building will provide additional education space for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Additionally, it will be used as a hurricane shelter, as many local storm shelters get overcrowded and can’t accommodate guests with intellectual and medical challenges. The 6,350 SF facility, which is located just west of the campus, includes five classrooms, two common areas, a kitchen, laundry, and medical facilities. When needed for a hurricane or other emergency event, the classrooms will transform into shelter housing and provide a familiar surrounding to help minimize anxiety for the residents.
