Historic Springfield church to undergo $4.68 million renovation for new congregation

The Old Holy Rosary Church, a century-old place of worship in Springfield, is getting new life with updates, like air conditioning and a new name.

Site plans were approved July 14 for renovation of the church, which is located at 2039 North Laura St.

The church will be the new home of the Society of St. Pius X and will be called Our Lady of Pompeii, after the image which on the church’s entrance. SSPX has outgrown St. Michael the Archangel’s Catholic Church and purchased The Old Holy Rosary in 2022 for $570,000.

Auld & White Constructors LLC will be revitalizing the church, along with Lane Architecture will be and Kennedy Civil Services, which are handling the architecture and engineering, respectively.
