Florida Theatre Applies for First Permit to Begin $15 Million Behind-the-Scenes Renovations
After $17 million in guest renovations in 2023 and 2024, the historic Florida Theatre will begin another round of improvements that will see work through 2026.
The City of Jacksonville is currently reviewing the nonprofit organization’s first permit application in what is a $15 million project slate.
If approved, Auld & White Constructors LLC will oversee $628,000 in work to include the removal of the structure’s now-dysfunctional 7-by-5-foot chimney. Once complete, this will broaden overhead and stage space and subsequently allow the theater to hold “one or two” more shows, according to Florida Theatre President Numa Saisselin.
