Auld & White Constructors was honored to receive three awards at the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), Florida First Coast Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards on Friday, August 5, 2022. The annual awards dinner, held at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, was attended by hundreds of members and clients of the Northeast Florida building community.

K9s For Warriors, Ponte Vedra, FL – Eagle Award Winner | A few miles away from its Shari Duval National Headquarters in Ponte Vedra, Florida, located on six acres of land generously donated by the Davis family, AWC constructed K9s For Warriors (K9FW) Mega Kennel. As the world’s largest shelter-to-service dog training facility, this location has the capability of being home to more than 150 service dogs-in-training and exponentially shortening the time veterans wait for life-saving service dogs. These animals will be given exceptional veterinary care and participate in rigorous training in advance of being paired with Warriors yearning to return to a life of dignity and independence. To date, K9FW has saved the lives of over 600 former military men and women with PTSD and other physical/psychological challenges. Additionally, the program has saved hundreds of abandoned dogs. The outstanding support, through professional training, matching the dog with a needing warrior has resulted in an extremely high suicide avoidance rate and a win-win for warriors and dogs. For Phase I of the K9FW Mega Kennel project, there were five buildings constructed – staff/training, two mega kennels, food storage, and the wellness (quarantine).

St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, FL – Eagle Award Winner | Auld & White Constructors was retained by the Diocese of St. Augustine to construct a new sanctuary for St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach. The sanctuary includes a large crucifix on a stone wall behind the altar, niches for the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, reconciliation rooms, a cry/bride’s room, choir loft, a monumental bell tower, and the transfer of 20 of St. Paul’s cherished stained-glass windows from the old church to the north and south elevations of the new one. After Lynchburg Stained Glass in Evington, Virginia delicately restored the windows, AWC meticulously ensured each of the uniquely-sized windows fit seamlessly into the framing of the new construction. The narthex/entrance at the east side features a new three-story stained glass version of The Ascension. New technology on the interior includes state-of-the-art flat-screen TVs and extensive sound, fire alarm, and HVAC systems. The iconic new facility seats nearly twice as many parishioners as the old church, which has allowed the growing church to continue welcoming the faithful and build on its 125-year plus Legacy of Faith.

UNF MedNexus, Jacksonville, FL – Eagle Award Winner | Auld & White Constructors was retained to construct a space at Florida State College of Jacksonville (FSCJ)’s Deerwood Center Campus for the UNF MedNexus program, the nation’s first comprehensive university-based medical and healthcare nexus. The 12,350 SF project included demolition of the existing FSCJ space, which was formerly the Grande Boulevard Mall. The new space created includes private offices, a conference room, simulation labs, a skill lab, and various support spaces including a locker area, work room, break room, and storage spaces for medical supplies, gurneys, and teaching equipment. According to a Florida Hospital Association (FHA) report, Florida is projected to face a shortfall of nurses by 2035. A recent FHA study showed that one in four nurses left their positions since the commencement of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Florida’s population continues to grow, increasing the demand for a strong healthcare workforce. With that in mind, the UNF MedNexus program’s goal is to connect university students, faculty, and researchers with thought leaders, secondary educational institutions, hospitals, and healthcare providers to produce more healthcare professionals to address Florida’s growing needs.
