Carpentry Apprentice
Job Description Summary
The Apprentice will work on the job sites of Auld & White. The Apprentice will assist Field Craftsmen in all aspects of carpentry trade, including construction, erection, installation and repair of structures and fixtures by a Field Craftsman, Lead Carpenter, or Project Superintendent.
Reporting Structure
The Apprentice reports directly to the Superintendent.
Educational Requirements
The Apprentice must abide by all rules of the Apprenticeship Program. The Apprentice must have a High School Diploma or GED. The Apprentice must attend the required number of classes, fill out and submit time cards in a timely manner and complete all test requirements.
Experience
The Apprentice should posses experience in the trade of carpentry.
Essential Job Functions
Dependable to be at work and on time. Reliable transportation. Northeast Florida Builders Association (The Apprentice School) requires their students to have a current, valid driver license.
Know basic measuring tools used by Field Craftsmen and identify various widths and lengths of lumber.
Read a ruler to the nearest one-sixteenth of an inch. Be familiar with basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of whole numbers. Be able to measure with fraction.
Be able to carry out given instructions from Field Craftsmen, Lead Carpenters and Project Superintendent.
Use hand tools to dig, and shape ground in preparation for placement of concrete.
Tie reinforcing steel in preparation for placement of concrete as directed by Field Craftsmen, Lead Carpenters and Project Superintendent.
Obtain knowledge to construct and erect forms and chutes for concrete pours and grade footings and slab.
Demolish foundations, concrete slabs, partitions, floor covering, ceiling, etc., using hand power tools as directed.
Assist Filed Craftsmen in framing walls and erecting roof trusses.
Assist Field Craftsmen in erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
Verify trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
Assist Field Craftsmen in placement and finish of concrete.
Ensure workplace safety. Observe worksite safety procedures. Utilize tools and equipment in accordance with operating and instructions/manual. Report safety hazards or potential hazards to supervisor.
