Carpenter

Job Description Summary

The Carpenter will work on job sites of Auld & White. The Carpenter will construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of concrete, wood, plywood and wallboard using carpenter’s hand and power tools as directed by Project Superintendent.

Reporting Structure

The Carpenter reports directly to the Superintendent.

Experience

The Carpenter should possess experience in the trade of carpentry.

Essential Job Functions – Partial List

Study blueprints, sketches or specification for information on type of material required, such as lumber, concrete, rebar or wallboard, etc. Understand the dimensions of structures or items fabricated and the type of finish required.

Select specified type of lumber or other materials.

Prepare layout using transit, level, rule and framing square.

Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. Shape materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels and planes. Assemble, cut and shape materials and fasten them with nails, screws, dowel pins or glue.

Construct and erect forms and chutes for pouring concrete.

Use hand tools to dig and shape ground in preparation for placement of concrete.

Place tie-reinforcing steel according to placement drawings.

Layout and erect structural framework, install partitions and lay sub floor.

Verify trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.

Layout and build stairs and layout and install cabinetwork.

Fit and install window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim and finish hardware, i.e. locks, letter drops and kick plates.

Demolish foundations, concrete slabs, partitions, floor covering, ceiling, etc., using hand and power tolls as directed.

Apply shock-absorbing, sound-deadening and decorative paneling to ceiling and walls.

Place and finish concrete.

Ensure workplace safety. Observe proper worksite safety procedures. Utilize tools and equipment in accordance with operating instructions/manuals. Report any safety hazards to Superintendent.
